How Teaching My Kids to Cook Turned Them into Culinary Superstars!

Hey there, friends!

So, let me tell you a little something about my amazing kids and how cooking and having regular family dinners has been a total game-changer for them. Since they were very young we have had family dinner every night, and when they were younger, I decided to introduce them to the wonderful world of cooking, so they could be involved in what they were eating. Sure, it started out with basic stuff like making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or helping out with cookies, but little did I know that these kitchen adventures would transform them into culinary wizards!

Fast forward to today, and I couldn’t be prouder of how my kids have taken their kitchen skills and made them shine, even when they’re miles away from home. Here’s the delicious scoop on each of them:

First up, my soldier son who’s stationed in Germany. Oh boy, he’s become the secret food master! His fellow soldiers often line up at his door, not for a top-secret mission, but for a taste of our family’s favorites. Apparently, the aromas from his apartment spread faster than rumors in a high school hallway. I guess they’ve realized that good food can be the ultimate morale booster!

Next, we have my firefighter son, who has turned the fire station kitchen into his personal area. I love that he shares his favorite recipes of mine with his crew.  You know how they say firefighters make the best food? Well, it’s true, and my son is living proof! He’s got his fire station buddies drooling over our dishes, and they’ve even started requesting some of my recipes on their downtime. Nothing brings a team together like good food, right?

Now, let’s talk about my son in Georgia. He’s not in the military or a firefighter, but he’s got his own squad to impress – his roommates! You’d think he’s running a gourmet restaurant out of their apartment. Apparently, his arsenal of recipes from home, have worked some kind of magic, turning his roomies into loyal customers. It’s like a culinary version of “Cheers” – where everybody knows his name and his childhood favorites are the star attraction!

Last but not least, let’s not forget my amazing daughters. They’re all grown up and have families of their own, but they’ve carried on the tradition of cooking excellence. From whipping up family dinners to hosting Sunday brunches, their kitchens are a paradise of flavors and laughter. I’ve got to say, when they call to ask for a favorite recipe to make, it seriously brings me so much joy!

You know, teaching my kids to cook has been one of the best decisions I ever made. Not only did it give them a valuable life skill, but it also ignited a passion for culinary adventures that they’ve taken with them wherever they go. Whether it’s in the barracks, a fire station, an apartment, or their own homes, they’ve shown that good food has the power to bring people together, create lasting memories, and turn ordinary moments into something extraordinary.  And the best part is that as a chef, I have hundreds of recipes for them to choose from.  That is the beauty of food, it nourishes the heart and the belly!

So, to all you parents out there, I encourage you to get your kids in the kitchen and cook up some fun together. Who knows, maybe one day your son or daughter will be known for their culinary prowess, just like mine. Happy cooking, everyone!

Bon appétit!
